Oma's Trip ~ 12/18/02 - no baby yet
Dateline: New Orleans, LA - in my own apartment
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moved in on 11th as planned. I've been busy gathering
and organizing stuff that my daughter, son-in-law,
former in-laws, and one of my daughter's friends have
"donated" to the pretty much empty-apartment cause:
~ microwave (YIPPIE SKIPPIE)
~ Love Seat (one side even has a foot rest that opens up)
~ 2 book cases
~ Picture frames, potpourri w/bowl
~ Brass waste basket (may turn into a plant holder)
~ End table (that works nicely with the love seat as a coffee table)
~ Folding chair
     Living Room in temp. apt.
~ Card table (cute... smaller than regular card table -- this
thing fits in the back of the Honda CRV - flat -- like over
where the spare tire goes... clever, huh?
    Card Table
~ Towels - thought I only needed one - which I brought
with me. What follows will tell you why I needed more
than one towel...
Last Friday the 13th (Oh, I JUST now realized THAT) I
went to Wal*Mart -- you know, that run to Wal*Mart when
you pick up everything you think you'll *need* in your
new apartment. This turned out to be the WORST trip to
any Wal*Mart EVER. It's only about 5 minutes from the
apartment and it's "super center" which I hadn't
experienced before -- my "home Wal*Mart" isn't even
CLOSE to that big... this store is WAY too big for
anybody with good sense and I proved I don't have good
sense by hitting dagone near EVERY aisle in the store -
- including the grocery store part. Got there a little
after noon and didn't get out of there til about 4:30pm
-- that includes about an hour wait in line just to
check out. They've got about 25 check out stands... 6
of them are tied up for "20 items or less" and when I
first got in line, they only had 7 other check stands
opened... how stewpit is that?? You'd THINK they'd want
to open them ALL up and get everybody's $$$ and get
them OUT of there so MORE people could come in and
spend more m$$$. My feet/lower legs were killing me and
-- wouldn't you know it -- it was raining pitch forks
and hoe handles when I came out. GEEZ! I hate the
rain!!
One of the things I picked up was a plug for the
bathroom sink -- so I could clean my contacts without
worrying about having them slip from my hand and go
down the drain (which HAS happened to me before). So, I
cleaned my contacts and when I pulled the plug, all the
water in the sink emptied at break-neck speed - into
the space below the sink!! Apparently the force of the
water broke thru an already-weak spot in the pipe and I
hadda use my ONE towel to clean that up... hence the
need for more towels.
Continuing on with the list of donations:
~ Silverware, plates, bowls, glasses
~ Hangers -- only needed about 5
~ little b/w TV (no cable - not sure I want to get that comfortable.
~ Large folding table for all computer stuff (and the TV).
    Long Folding Table
~ Reading Pillow - Green
~ Single bed (frame, box spring & mattress)
    Bed
~ Candles & candle holder (may be a plant stand later)
    Candle/Plant Stand
I continue to work on the baby Afghan.. it's progressing
along nicely.
Went to a John Prine concert on the 8th and that was fun.
I think it's warmed up from what it was a couple of
weeks ago... and there's clouds out there now so it's
warm and muggy and it'll probably rain before long...
did I say that I HATE the rain??
