Oma's Trip ~ 03/02/03 Dateline: Ft. Stockton, TX ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THIS IS NOT THE SAME DAY... it really IS ANOTHER new day... different day, same sh*t. Filled up in Kerrville, TX and left early enough (at 7:37am) to make El Paso today. Filled up in Ft. Stockton, TX (FINALLY got a read on my miles per gallon). 32.7 miles west of Ft. Stockton, you guessed it -- she just stopped... again... Called 911 and they dispatched a tow truck out of Ft. Stockton: Guidion, the tow truck driver, poked around under the hood a little bit and said "It's the fuel pump." Then he loaded the car and brought me, Pepper and the car 32 miles back to Ft. Stockton... Interesting guy -- somebody told me to try and meet interesting people on this trip -- Guidion said "The ONLY good thing about Ft. Stockton is ME!" I thought that was pretty interesting!! Guidion said the Firestone shop in Ft. Stockton is an "independent" shop... it's not opened on Sunday PLUS, being "independent", it probably won't honor the Firestone guarantee, so Guidion says he's not gonna charge me for the tow and brings the car to his friend, Robert, at the Texaco station... MAYBE Robert can take a look at it tomorrow. Guidion said "No cab in Ft. Stockton." He loads up whatever I need from the car onto the wrecker and brings me to the Motel 6. Tomorrow??? Who knows!
